Fully Customizable Team Development—4 seasons of the year! Whether your team development is on NLRI’s campus or at a location near you, your program is specifically customized to suit your team’s abilities. Prior to your experience, we will provide you with a thorough needs assessment questionnaire. We utilize this information to create a customized itinerary with carefully selected initiatives to meet your desired outcomes. Our program and facilitators will always remain flexible to your group’s needs and requests.

The Northern Lights Rock and Ice Experience enables participants to grow at both the team and individual level by exploring risk, leadership, communication, problem solving, and coaching. We believe that some of the most amazing personal and team development is accomplished through overcoming challenges. We design our activities to provide enough of a challenge to stretch your team’s limits, while providing enough support and guidance to expand them. Whether a person is belaying (supporting), climbing, or encouraging a teammate, every moment at NLRI is rich with discoveries. We are a “Challenge By Choice" facility, empowering participants to choose the path that is right for them—a highly skilled instructor will always be on hand to facilitate the group through each initiative and discussion. No matter what NLRI activities you choose, our world-class structures, professional equipment, and expertly trained staff is in place to insure our services are as physically and emotionally safe as possible.
TYPES OF EXPERIENCES: Ground Activities: Many of our best activities do not require harnesses or ropes -- they're done right on the ground. Since these elements are portable, we can also provide these activities at your business or retreat location. Our ground activities are fun and experiential team development exercises that promote learning and growth through participation and discussion. Your group will be taken through a sequence of initiatives (on or just off the ground) that become more challenging as the team develops and acquires new skills. Throughout the process, your team will have fun, recognize each other’s individual value, gain better insight of the group’s dynamics, and master the tools that allow for a more effective and productive team.
Challenge Course Experiences: Our Low, Mid, and High Challenge Courses are a series of elements made up of poles, ropes, structures and cables that are 2, 24, and 42 feet off of the ground. Traversing dynamic elements at varying heights is often intimidating (but exciting) for many people, and conquering this ‘perceived risk’ is opportunity to overcome personal fears, further connect with team members, and make discoveries about how the team functions and operates.
SAMPLE PROGRAMS: SAMPLE HALF-DAY (3-Hour) TEAM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: We’ll begin with a professionally designed and tested activity such as Webmaster© or Colourblind© to challenge and explore your team’s communication and problem solving skills. We’ll then head into the woods and utilize our Low Challenge Course elements to create metaphors to bring the NLRI experiential learning back to your workplace. From here, we’ll tackle one last challenge, the Cargo Net and 450-foot Zip line. This is sure to be an incredibly meaningful and exciting experience for your team.
SAMPLE FULL-DAY (6-hour) TEAM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: We’ll begin very similar to the half-day program, but we will expand the number and complexity of the activities in a natural progression to our climbing walls and Mid and High Courses. With elements such as the Leap of Faith and Earthquake Bridge, each new challenge is framed, facilitated and debriefed to maximize the building of trust, leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and problem solving. Each successive experience provides transferable learning to employ & utilize in your work environment.
LEAD BY EXPERIENCE (Multiple sessions, 3 half-day or 2 full day programs): This custom multi-session series expands beyond our shorter programs by allowing a more gradual progression through a greater number of increasingly complex team challenges. This progression affords more opportunity for productive trial and error, and it allows additional time for group reflection and development. Designed to inspire extensive positive growth for your team, the Lead By Experience series is more than a fun shared experience; it is a commitment to be stronger, happier and more effective.
